This site will explain the pre-speech language pathology and audiology preparation programs at Cleveland State University and what is to be expected at each phase. An enriching undergraduate experience at Cleveland State University is the first step in your journey to becoming an audiologist or speech language pathologist.
Cleveland State is also fortunate to have our own graduate program in speech pathology, a Master of Arts in Speech Pathology.
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has additional information about other Speech Language Pathology and Audiology graduate programs, the application process, and the GRE.
More Information for Pre-Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Students:
Audiology is the science of hearing, balance, and related disorders. Audiologists are experts in the non-medical diagnosis and management of disorders of the auditory and balance systems.
Speech-language pathology (SLP) is the study and treatment of human communication and its disorders. Speech-language pathologists work with the full range of human communication to evaluate, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
Speech-language pathology and audiology programs vary in terms of prerequisites, length, and application. Students at Cleveland State that major in Speech and Hearing will satisfy the prerequisites for the CSU graduate program, but need to research other programs for any additional courses required.
