CSU SPS granted Chapter Research Award

SPS 3-21-17
Cheers to COSHP Physics majors and CSU Society of Physics Students (SPS) officers, Ilona Tsuper, Dan Terrano, and Tony Dobrila who won the SPS Chapter Research Award for their proposal entitled, “Deducing size and shape of Gold Nanorods in solution from Depolarized Dynamic Light Scattering data” in the amount of $2000. This national program provides grants to support local chapter activities that are deemed imaginative and likely to contribute to the strengthening of the SPS program. Awards are possible thanks to the generous support of Sigma Pi Sigma members and alumni whose donations help support local projects.
The student proposal was based on preliminary research supported by CSU’s Office of Research via a 2016 Undergraduate Summer Research Award (USRA) and two semester-long (Spring 2016 and Spring 2017) Undergraduate Research Awards (URA). Student research experiences were advised by COSHP’s Associate Professor of Physics, Kiril A. Streletzky, PhD who has served as the Faculty Advisor to the CSU chapter of SPS since 2005. In this capacity, Dr. S actively promotes physics undergraduate education via engaged teaching, undergraduate research, personal mentoring and student outreach activities.
